Personal Car Registration number plates are a very popular way to not only enhance the value of a vehicle, but enhance the looks of that vehicle. In Great Britain the current car registrations system was introduced in 2001. There is another scheme for Northern Ireland. Car Registrations having a combination of characters that are particularly appealing (resembling a name, for example) are auctioned each year. Vehicles registered under previous numbering systems continue to retain their original car registration plates. Subject to certain conditions, registration plates can be transferred between vehicles by the vehicle owner; some of these transfers involve tens of thousands of pounds changing hands, due to the desirability of a specific number.
All car registrations we supply from the ‘Build Your Own car registrations’ section (above) are brand new and have never previously been on a vehicle. The first of these, the year, used to be shown as a year-letter code which appeared as a suffix or, later, a prefix to a registration. For example ABC 123A is an example of a year suffixed number plate, while A123 ABC is a year prefixed number. The second item, the region or area, is coded in the letters that appear together in a group. Each local issuing authority has its own letter code. Any other vehicle bearing the numbers 123 in that order must have a different year and/or area code.
